Zirafa Hipshooter EP
Zirafa explains the music as “John Wayne meets Luke Vibert Style”, and I think Zirafa means Giraffe because when doing a search on Google a ton of giraffe images came up like this one (update..apparently it’s Arabic for Giraffe):
This is some minimal electronic music ,similar to what you might find when playing Zelda on your old NES, only with a lot more style, flare and better beats. The EP begins with John Wayne samples. The dischord between the rough machismo of Wayne and the clean synth sounds of the EP create an interesting first impression that is repeatedly played upon throughout the 9 tracks. You hear Wayne’s voice once again towards the end of “Cole Electric” just before a dizzying sound spectrum takes you into the nice slow groove of “Arrows”, who knew blips and bleeps could sound so sexy. It’s the soundtrack to robot porn, faster then slower, then fast again, and… I’m spent. But in all seriousness, Zirafa is doing some interesting things throughout these tracks, creating some very nice digital atmospheres that are getting me through the work day very nicely.
I think it’s summed up best on the site:
Hipshooter was inspired by dancing, blips and bleeps, old cowboy movies, lasers, free jazz, forgotten technologies, and bagel sandwiches. It’s a listen-from-the-hips type of record (a first for me). So turn it up and make your ears into mush!
The great news about this EP is you can download is for free at zirafamusic.com(yes, I said FREE!) and purchase a Limited Suuply CD for only $6 which includes a full color 8×11 CD-poster with CD mount, and a hand drawn CD. All this with Free shipping (I’m starting to sound like an info-mercial). Wow, Radiohead never made any hand drawn cd’s!
